Kabul Red Cross
L’équipe du centre de réhabilitation de la Croix Rouge de Kaboul (Afghanistan), dirigée par Alberto Cairo, travaille depuis plus de trente ans pour donner aux amputés un nouveau départ dans la vie. Chaque année, ce programme, unique au monde par son ampleur et sa durée de vie, permet à dix mille nouveaux bénéficiaires d’obtenir une prothèse (ou une orthèse) adaptée à sa morphologie.
J’ai été très impressionné par l’ambiance de travail et de confiance de ce centre où les employés sont eux-mêmes des amputés. Ils travaillent avec du matériel offert par des pays européens. Le centre entraîne aussi l’équipe nationale de basket en fauteuil roulant. Les fauteuils, en version « sportive », sont également construits dans les ateliers du centre.
Les victimes de la guerre et de la violence dans laquelle le pays est plongé depuis plus de quarante années retrouvent espoir dans ce lieu. Le professionnalisme de cette équipe afghane, qui fournit un appareillage orthopédique et une réadaptation physique adaptés à chaque cas, provoque l’admiration.

The team at the Red Cross rehabilitation center in Kabul (Afghanistan), led by Alberto Cairo, has worked for over thirty years to give amputees a new start in life. Each year, this unique program (in terms of its scale and lifespan) gives to ten thousand new beneficiaries a prosthesis (or orthosis) adapted to their morphology.
I was very impressed by the atmosphere of work and confidence of this center where the employees are themselves amputees. They work with material offered by European countries. The center also trains the national wheelchair basketball team. The “sporty” version of the armchairs is also built in the centre’s workshops.
The victims of the war and the violence in which the country has been plunged for more than forty years find hope in this place. I admire the professionalism of this Afghan team, which provides orthopedic equipment and physical rehabilitation adapted to each case.

Меня очень впечатлила рабочая доверительная атмосфера, царящая в этом медецинском центре, где все сотрудники сами пережили ампутацию. Они работают с оборудованием, предоставленным странами ЕС, а также тренируют национальную сборную по баскетболу на инвалидных креслах. Эти кресла, в спортивной их версии, производятся в мастерской центра.
Здесь жертвы войны и насилия, из которых страна не может выбраться вот уже более 40 лет, обретают надежду. Тот профессионализм, с которым эта афганская команда предоставляет ортопедическое оборудование и подстраивает его под каждого пациента, вызывает восхищение.
